National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH),
UP Los Baños
The National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in UP Los Baños, popularly known as BIOTECH, is the first biotechnology R&D institute in the Philippines. A research arm of UP Los Baños, BIOTECH is mandated to develop cost-effective technologies for the production of high-value products, processes and services through modern biotechnology. BIOTECH has achieved significant research breakthroughs, many of which are already commercially available:
BIOTECH also offers various services through its six laboratory services: Central Analytical Services Laboratory performs routine chemical analyses and develops new analytical techniques. It is accredited by the Department of Health, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Bureau of Animal Industry and Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority. Fermentation Engineering and Services Laboratory houses pilot plant equipments for product separation, purification, formulation and packaging. It provides technical support in the process optimization and scale-up activities. Electron Microscopy Services Laboratory provides complete electron microscopy services. It is open to research collaboration. It also conducts an individual or group training course. Immunology Laboratory is a diagnostic center that provides rapid detection services for plant, food and feed pathogens and mycotoxins. The lab can determine concentration levels as low as 5 parts per billion. It also serves as a training center for government or private personnel involved in disease management and control. Enzyme Laboratory has services that determine different enzyme activities. Philippine National Collection of Microorganisms serves as a repository of at least 1500 microbial strains. Its services include microbiological analyses, microorganism identification and anti-microbial analysis. Contact details: |
