10. What GM crops are in the international
market?
Since January 2000, 17 crops or plants have
already received regulatory approvals in 16 countries, including
the European Union. There are already 10 traits conferred to
transgenic (GM) plants. In December 2002, the Philippine Department
of Agriculture approved Monsanto’s Bt corn event MON810,
joining the other nine countries that also approved the use
of Bt corn.
