Philippine Association of Meat Processors, Inc. STATEMENT ON BIOTECHNOLOGY* The Philippine Association of Meat Processors, Inc., composed of 38 meat processing member-companies nationwide, adheres to government policy of promoting the safe and responsible use of modern biotechnology in the manufacture of their food products, and we assure all consumers that the quality and safety of our products do not pose a health risk. Biotechnology critics have been less than fair in their consumer scare-tactics despite the assurances from the Bureau of Food and Drugs that genetically modified foods are safe and meet all international food safety standards. Anti-GMO advocates have not offered scientific evidence to support rejection of biotechnology, while all documented research on gene technology for agriculture have proven beneficial for increased food production which this nation so badly needs. We assure the public that all the PAMPI member companies continue to provide safe, quality products manufactured under strict scientific basis and certified by responsible institutions and government agencies to be safe, healthy, and compliant to regulations. *Philippine STAR, 29 August 2002
