Philippine Chamber of Food Manufacturers, Inc. A RESOLUTION AFFIRMING AND REITERATING SUPPORT FOR THE NATIONAL POLICY ON BIOTECHNOLOGY WHEREAS, the Philippine Chamber of Food Manufacturers, Inc. concurs with the shared opinion of the World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and many other independent scientific bodies that genetically modified crops, including ingredients derived from them, that have passed food safety evaluation, are as safe for use in food production as their traditional counterparts; WHEREAS, the government, through its Policy Statement on Modern Biotechnology, has been promoting the safe and responsible use of modern biotechnology and its products as a means to achieve and sustain food security, equitable access to health services, sustainable and safe environment, and industry development; WHEREAS, pursuant to and consistent with the aforementioned policy, the Department of Agriculture has duly issued Administrative Order Number 8 entitled "Rules And Regulations For The Importation And Release Into The Environment Of Plants And Plant Products Derived From The Use Of Modern Biotechnology" to regulate and govern the release of Genetically Modified products for propagation or for direct use as food or feed, or for processing. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved as it is hereby resolved, that the Philippine Chamber of Food Manufacturers, Inc. hereby expresses and reiterates its support of the National Policy on Biotechnology and endorses the full implementation of AO 8, including the commercialization of Bt Corn and the importation and use of other genetically modified organisms that have passed food safety evaluation, in accordance with AO 8.
